&CWH31** Welcome to Crossword Creator! **
Crossword Creator is the easiest to use, most powerful crossword
puzzle editor available for PC's and PC-compatible computers.
If you are an educator, an instructional materials professional,
or a newsletter publisher, you will find that Crossword Creator
has been tailored to your unique needs, especially your "need
for speed". CWC's "robot" puzzle builder can generate a
crossword from a list of words in a matter of seconds.
And if you are simply an enthusiast, Crossword Creator provides
you with everything you need to design and print puzzles for
yourself, family, and friends.
Lastly, CWC is multi-lingual. So if English isn't your mother
tongue, switch to Spanish. Or French. Crossword Creator can
dynamically translate its entire user-interface into any
language that uses a standard Arabic alphabet.

&CWH33*** New Features/Changes In CWC 5.0 ***
1. "Next" pushbuttons have been added to the "Edit Clues"
dialog (the PgUp/PgDn keys also work). You can now easily
scroll through all the clues without going back to the
grid. The "Next Across" and "Next Down" options have been
removed from the "Edit" menu.
2. CLUMAKE.EXE and CWDTP.EXE are no longer supplied as
standalone utilities. Their functions are now integrated
into CWC.EXE via the new "Import/Export" options on the
"File" menu. In addition to ASCII text, a new export
format has been added to support Longridge Software's
"Crossword Publisher".
The new "Edit Bank" option on the "Edit" menu also allows
you to directly add or remove words from the Word Bank
without having to import an ASCII file.
3. Puzzle "title" strings are now stored in the .PUZ file,
instead of the .CLU file. This makes .CLU a pure,
comma-delimited file that you can import back into a
database program. CWC 5.0 can read CWC 4.x data files, but
will save them only in the new 5.x format.
4. The menu system now supports hotkeys in the action bar and
the pulldowns. Pressing the "Alt" key activates the
hotkeys. All dialogs now have a "Help" button and a
"cleaner" look.
5. The "Print" dialog has two new options. "Center On Page"
causes the title, puzzle, and clues to be centered on the
printout (this is the new default).
"Big Boxes" causes the puzzle boxes to be printed about
twice normal size (relative to the clue index numbers).
Of course, since the larger boxes require more print
columns, you may have to limit the size of your puzzle to
use this option.
You may also specify a number of "Copies" to print. The
default is 1.
6. "Normal" and "condensed" printer drivers are now
consolidated into a single .CWP file, enabling CWC to
adjust the scale of the printed output when necessary.
Thus the annoying "puzzle is too wide" warning, so common
in earlier versions of CWC, has all but been eliminated.
7. By default, the "Limits" values on the "Auto Place" dialog
are set so that the robot will generate "average-sized"
puzzles that will not require condensed print.
8. All relevant dialog responses are now saved in CONFIG.CWC.
User settings are restored to their previous values (rather
than the defaults) the next time you start CWC. CONFIG.CWC
is saved automatically when the "Exit" option is selected.
9. The old "Configuration" dialog has been split up into
"Printer", "File Locations", and "Colors" dialogs, and
moved under a new menu called "Options". Instead of the
cryptic CONFIG.CWC keyword names, meaningful terms are now
used to label each item in these dialogs.
10. An "incomplete word" warning message is issued if you try
to attach a clue to a word that contains template
characters.
11. In 4.x versions of CWC, "PgDn" was provided as a shortcut
way of moving to the "Ok" button in a dialog, rather than
having to repeatedly press "Tab". This did not work in
every situation. The shortcut key has been changed to
"F2", and now works consistently.
12. When placing the very first word into a blank grid,
Auto Place now positions it in the center of the work area,
rather than in the top, left-hand corner.
13. The contents of the Status Window now changes dynamically,
to guide you through the various steps of puzzle
construction. CWC periodically evaluates your progress,
and (gently) suggests what to do next.
